Eclipse Cleanse
Rituals For Your Home
Magical Cleaning (Like Magical Thinking, But Different)
As someone with my North Node in the 6th House, I have been finding ways to embrace the magical and spiritual in everyday life. Part of this means learning to connect the tangible with the intangible – the mundane with the extraordinary. Since the 6th House is connected to “order”, it felt right to use the current Virgo South Node (and upcoming Virgo Lunar Eclipse) as a way to talk about the power of organization and cleaning, and the impact that order can have on you, outside of your space – into your soul.
Virgo has a connection to routines and rituals, and this extends even further into our daily habits — the small things that would even typically go unnoticed. The routines that we keep around the house can influence the routines we keep in our lives overall. Everything holds energy, and that energy impacts us on deep levels that we can’t even explain at times. If your space is cluttered, you may feel cluttered. It is no secret that if your home is clean, you feel lighter and more ready to accept new possibilities in your life. Your environment impacts you in more ways than you can even imagine. Through this article, we will explore the power of tidying up (think Marie Kondo, although cleaning may not always “spark joy”) and how it will extend into other areas of your life.
To provide this for the upcoming eclipse season as well feels like the right move. Eclipses are a cosmic clean-up in their own right. They shift things around, move energy — and so you can and will do the same this season. For the official start to eclipse season look at the days surrounding February 17, 2026. It will not end until the next New Moon that is not an eclipse, which is March 18, 2026.
Just a little note from me…
Many of you here may not know, but I work for myself full-time. I also am really bad at self-promotion, as all of my work is word of mouth and through mutual connections. With that said, this substack, my clients, and my astrology work is how I make my living. So any and all support allows me to do what I love and give back in other ways to this community — whether through resources, time, energy, or writing.
If you have been considering working with me, I opened my March books back up again with additional dates for readings and consultations added! You can check those out below. If you are not sure about booking a reading, but want to support my work, you can always attend my upcoming Saturn Class on Feburary 12th, upgrade to a paid subscription here on Substack, or even just restack/share my writings and musings.
I also want to note that I know not everyone has resources to spare, that is why I offer so much of my writing work for free. It allows everyone to have access to astrology or what I can provide in some way. It is important to me to be accessible where I can be. My horoscopes on my site and most of the writing on this platform will remain free and available. It is one of the many contributions I like to make back to community.
Anyways, thank you for taking the time to read my work and for caring about what I share. You have no idea what it means to me!
Love, always - Anthony
There are certain ways to go about ceremonial cleansing. However, I suggest following this method for ease — plus it is a proven process by me (haha):
Clearing
Cleansing
Organizing
Each of these gives us an area of focus and provides something different energetically to us. You don’t need to engage in these all at once or even consecutively. Just putting the intention into what you do can be enough.
Note: I understand that life happens. You can’t control everything, and sometimes cleaning takes a back burner. However, it is important to point out that when you feel like something is out of control, cleaning can bring you to a space where you are able to focus on what’s directly in front of you. This is the magic and power of cleaning, in and of itself. This is the power of being present and focused while cleansing. You cleanse your space, you cleanse yourself. You can even set intentions while cleaning. magic exists in and around us, even in the most mundane ways.
Clearing
To clear is to remove, eliminate, and take away. This is the decluttering phase (hello, eclipse season). Before you can even organize anything, you have to see what you are working with. By taking out the trash or recycling, donating clothing, or even putting things back where they belong, you are making room (literally and figuratively) – space for what could be, or could come to you.
Clearing is an act of release.
There is a desire to let go that comes with this phase. You can clear out the old by gathering what is just taking up space in your home, closet, or drawers. This is your editing — the chance to critically ask yourself why you are holding onto something. It allows you to be mindful about your relationship to the pieces or objects as well. Know that if you don’t want to get rid of something, know that you don’t have to! But it may help to redefine the item’s purpose in your life. Instead of taking up space, decide what use it has. After all, Virgo is about efficiency. Give it the gift of utility.
After you have gathered what is no longer useful, find ways to give them new life (if they are in good condition, or can be repurposed). Consider giving them to a shelter or organization. Find something that is near and dear to you. Part of clearing is reciprocity — give and take. What you release out into the world finds its way back to you. You give and clear to make space.
Now clearing doesn’t have to be so hard. You could simply clear the air by opening your windows and doors — letting the fresh air into your space to dispel whatever may be lurking. You can even engage in ethical smoke clearing or sound clearing. A smoke clearing is burning herbs, incense, or wands to purify the energy in your home. Sound clearing, on the other hand, is working with a bell or sound bowl to do the same work, but through sound vibration. If you are choosing to do a smoke or sound clearing, make sure you get in the cracks, crevices, and doorways. Leave no area unchecked.
Note: please do your research to understand what herbs/plants are available to non-indigenous people and which are sacred, thus unable to be used by non-indigenous people. Protect these practices and do not appropriate or cause harm to the BIPOC community. Example: Rosemary, Cedar or Thyme as alternatives to Palo Santo or White Sage or other sacred herbs. This is by no means comprehensive, I encourage you to do research on your own to understand more.
Cleaning
After you have cleared the area, it is time to clean and cleanse the space. Yes, these may be very similar, however, cleaning can be as simple as it sounds. This is where we wash away. We have released, and now we are actively cleansing anything that may be left. We can ensure that our space is spotless.
Cleaning is my favorite part of this process, honestly. It can take many forms. Consider that washing the dishes, vacuuming, sweeping, and wiping down surfaces are all acts of cleaning, thus capable of energetic cleansing. Cleaning is a form of magic that is often overlooked. It combines all the elements and acts of ritual. All it needs to be complete is infusing the act with intention and your own spells to literally make the magic happen!
Glass/Mirrors/Windows
Cleaning mirrors and glass can reflect energy back into your life and brighten your aura and space. Glass and mirrors are also representative of water, thus our emotions. By keeping them clean, you are clearing the negativity and making it easier to access and understand your emotional well-being. If you are looking for a good mirror cleaning ritual, try this one:
By taking time to cleanse and wash these reflective surfaces, we are creating that same mirror in our own lives. The more the glass shines, the more we do — the easier it is to then see what needs our attention.
Ingredients/Tools:
3 tbsp white vinegar
2 tbsp rubbing alcohol
Approximately 1 1/2 cups water
16 oz bottle
Cloth or Towel
Journal or Paper
Pen or Pencil
Mixing the Solution:
Step 1: Pour vinegar and rubbing alcohol into a 16 oz spray bottle.
Step 2: Fill the bottle with water and shake to mix.
Step 3: Time to get cleaning!
The Ritual:
Take time to make sure you have the windows open when you do this ritual. It will let the light in and allow you to see any streaks or missed areas on the glass or mirrored surfaces. It will illuminate what needs to be seen.
Take a deep breath and think of an idea, intention, or thought. Spray the cleaning solution on the reflective or glass surface. Imagine you are clearing space for this intention.
Let the solution sit for 30 seconds. Then, wipe away in a clockwise motion to welcome in positivity and manifestation. As you clean the glass, focus on clarity and put yourself at the pinnacle of your intention.
What does it look like to see your goal so clearly? Where will it take you?
After you have washed away the solution, stare at the center of the glass or mirror. Glass represents water, thus giving us a window into the liminal space (and into the deeper parts of ourselves). Take a deep breath and look to the top right hand corner of the surface. Then, with your eyes, look down to the bottom left, up to the top left, and down to the bottom right corner. Imagine stability and security.
Look one more time at the center of the surface, and take it in for one moment. Then record your feelings in a journal and answer these prompts:
What was your intention or goal?
Are you seeing it clearly?
How did you feel spraying the mirror or glass?
What did you think of when wiping away the solution?
Where can you find stability in attaining your desires?
When you looked at yourself one last time, what did you see?
Floors
Focusing on your floors can ground you, which can be a multi-step process. You may sweep first to get anything large that stands in the way, and then vacuum to get what is left over. Debris on the floor can manifest as obstacles in your life. If it is dirty, then you are walking on uneven ground. Washing the floor can act as a baptism or a reset. It is washing away the grime, but also energy that has been sitting on the ground - maybe even washing away old structures. Floors get dirty the quickest, thus making us feel stuck or without balance.
After you clean your floors, make sure you stand with both bare feet to the ground to feel the impact it has on your body and spirit. Feel rooted in your home and self. Try this ritual to support you in your grounding efforts:
Washing my floors personally is like a reset button. Feel free to modify it for yourself and with what you have on-hand. The ingredients themselves will only guide and influence but will never be the sole factor here. The intention is in the action and the process, not always in the ingredients alone.
Ingredients:
1 gallon of warm water
3/4 cup olive oil
1/2 lemon juiced
1/4 cup white vinegar
Tools:
Broom
Dust pan (optional)
Mop
Bucket
Sweep:
Sweep your floor with a broom, collecting any debris that may be on the surface of the floor. In Italian folk tradition, you sweep everything out the back door. However, it is perfectly fine to sweep and just pick up the debris and throw it away. The act is cleansing and doing what feels right for you. Vacuuming is also perfectly acceptable if that is more convenient (or you have carpet). I personally sweep, then vacuum afterward before I mop. Just in case.
Wash:
Combine the above ingredients together in a bucket and stir clockwise 5 times with a mop while speaking what you’d like to release. When washing your floors, imagine you’re scrubbing away your doubts, fears and anything that is holding you back. Lemon acts as a purifier and energizer. Vinegar is a powerful cleanser. Olive Oil blesses, protects and anoints. It also creates a beautiful shine. Let the solution stay on the floor for 15 minutes or so, and then wipe clean. Wiping clean is important as it engages you in the action of tying up the loose ends instead of waiting for things to pan out. The floors will be a little slick from the oil, so be careful!

Surfaces/Appliances
This includes counters, tables, shelves, surfaces of appliances, etc. Surfaces usually have a connection to different elements depending on what they are made of. If they are stone or wood, that would be Earth energy. If metal or stainless steel, that would be Air. By cleaning and dusting these surfaces, you are taking away the fog that may sit over you.
Observe that if you clean anything metal, it may bring mental clarity. If you wipe down anything wood or stone, that is helping with material and physical prosperity. If the surface happens to be in the bathroom, consider this an emotional connection (think Water). Thus, wiping down surfaces in the bathroom will help with a spiritual or emotional problem. Lastly, the kitchen can be connected to Fire (and Earth). But if you clean the stove, oven, or even the space around it, you are igniting that Fire in your life again. This would include inside the oven as well!
You can use the same method as the ritual I provided for the Glass/Mirror ritual — but perhaps your prompts or intentions are different.
Walls/Doors/Rooms
Walls are our stability and structure in our homes — so, they must be recognized. Washing the walls will add more stability to your life. Maybe you are trying to build a plan; wall-washing can help you find the structure or order. Cleaning your doors ensures that only the right energy can come into your space. Your front door is used often, so think of the revolving energy that comes in and out of it from the outside. You can use a witches bell for door cleaning — which are charms to clear the energy of enters or exits via sound.
As for rooms, each can have its own feeling. As I mentioned, the bathroom has connection to the Water element, while the kitchen is more Fire- and Earth-oriented. The living space is often associated with Air by nature, while work spaces are often a combo of Earth and Air. Our bedrooms may be an amalgamation of all four elements together! So by cleaning these spaces as a whole, you are actively cleansing your Mind (Air), Body (Earth), Heart (Fire), and Soul (Water).
Try this ritual for door cleaning:
Get a rag and your chosen cleaner — you can try the recipe I offered for the Mirror/Glass Cleaning above. Wipe down your front door inside and out. If you can, clean the front step, walkway, and entrace area at your front door, too. If you have a mat, wash it or shake it out. Remove any additional debris.
While cleaning, visualize. What are you calling in this month, week, day — hell, even this eclipse season? You can focus on anything that feels prevalent to you or the world around you.
Write what you want to call in on a piece of paper. Be clear and concise. Fold this paper and place it around your door — think under the welcome mat, on top of the door, the corner of the entryway, etc. By putting the intention by the door you are calling them to you and into your home.
If you want, use herbs as a support system. Think black pepper for protection or cinnamon for abundance or ginger for expedition. You can sprinkle whatever you choose on the paper or blow the ground spices out your door.
Then admire and have gratitude. This is the time for what you called in to arrive. Perhaps even as a knock on the door.
Closets/Clothes/Drawers
Oftentimes, this may feel like a once or twice a year project at most, but it could be more often if you wanted to! Closets hold memories, materials, and energy all their own – same with drawers. Thus, what we put into them contributes to just that: photos, notes, work, clothes, etc. We have to be mindful of how we store things and where we place them. Closets that are a mess may signify areas in your life that you may be ignoring.
So by tackling the closet or drawers, you can actively confront what you are avoiding. Clothes are similar, as they hold our energy and impression. In that way, washing and folding clothes can demonstrate care for them, thus caring for yourself. If you put your clothes away correctly, then you are taking time to tend to your future self. The time we spend in one area reflects how much we truly care about it. By valuing your clothes, you are valuing yourself.
I have written extensively on closet organization and how to work with your wardrobe. Most recently, I produced an article called Forecast. Edit. Style. You can refer to it as a way to find inspiration and build your own ritual for this process.
Organizing
The talk of clothing brings me to a perfect place: organization. Organizing doesn’t mean go out and buy 1,000 bins and labels. It doesn’t have to be like that. It can be easy, and not costly.
Simply put: by organizing, you are putting the finishing touches on the ritual, the act — the magic. This is where we slow down and we become mindful. We have been moving and active as we have been clearing and cleaning. Now, we get to see what’s left — what is around. What needs a home, a space, and our energy. This is where we find choice. The choices we make to place an item somewhere will also impact the choices we make in life.
If you are careless with it, then you may be careless with your decisions. Being intentional can bring more awareness and time to process. Plus, organization leads to orderliness, which makes it easier to manage. So, if we spend time carving out a space for something that makes sense to us, we are more likely to put it back in that spot.
It becomes a habit, a routine — a ritual. Consider the organization just as important as the cleaning itself. It is here that we bring it all to a close and have the chance to build stability and longevity.
This is where the magic in you is able to live on forevermore.
